What works as input
For artists: a name (Lil Nas X, Phoebe Bridgers), a share link (open.spotify.com/artist/06HL4z0CvFAxyc27GXpf02), a URI (spotify:artist:06HL4z0CvFAxyc27GXpf02), or the bare 22-character ID. Name search returns the most popular match.
For users: a share link, a spotify:user: URI, or the user ID. Spotify's API doesn't expose user search by name, so the username field is the only way to look up a user.
Questions
- Can I search for an artist by name?
- Yes, but only for artists. Spotify's search API supports artist names, so typing 'Lil Nas X' returns the most popular match. User search by name isn't supported by Spotify's API.
- Does Spotify have profile banners?
- No. Spotify renders a color gradient from the avatar instead of a separate banner image. Only the avatar is offered.
- Where do I find a Spotify share link?
- On any artist or user page in the Spotify app, click the three dots, then Share, then Copy Link.
- What resolution do I get?
- The largest image Spotify stores. For popular artists this is typically 640x640 or larger.
